Since the very inception of the Asian Snooker Championship in 1984, no other nation has dominated the event the way Thai players have done, winning the title 11 times out of a total of 18 tournaments. Sakchai Sim-ngam has the honour of winning the first championship when it was staged in Thailand. Wattana Pu-Ob-Orm, who now plays on the World Snooker Main Tour, has won the championship twice and so has Anurat Wongjan. Praprut Chaithanasakul is only player in the history of the tournament to have captured back-to-back titles.
